What does the electrical look like for the lighting ? Is it conduit on the ceiling ? Sorry why would you do incadesent lighting in fixtures where changing a bulb is a big job. Waht other lighting are you planning ? These are not enough to light the space they should be part of a much more overall lighting plan . Waht ae you planning for the DR? Anything on a chain and cord will move in a tiny bit of air movement so the one with the rod .That one would hang with the bottom of the fixture about 8 ft from the floor . Waht is planned for island lighting . Since this is all one open plan all of this needs to be planned together .As for how many it depnds on the rest of the lighting and that DR size is pretty useless BTW so that will be moving into the LR space somewhat so the lighting needs to be planned along with furniture plans .

Hi, thank you for the post. Yes, we will add electrical conduits on the ceiling and plan to use LED bulbs in the pendant lights. The kitchen island will have two 12" pendant lights, and we're adding 3 recessed lights in the kitchen. We're combining the dining and living room areas into a single large living space, which measures 15'10" x 18'6". Do you think 4 pendant lights, each with a 1600-lumen LED bulb (I apologize, I meant equivalent to a 100W incandescent light bulb), will provide sufficient lighting for the space? Or should we consider using 5 or 6 pendant lights instead?

From the sound of it might be better to use 5-6 pendant lights to cover ground in the space; also depends how they are spaced out when its all said and done!

Are your walls concrete too? I use cable lighting in spaces with high ceilings to get the lighting where it is needed .
