One vote for shoe molding.

Nope, it's ugly, ugly, ugly. Caulk the gap between the baseboard and floor. Use Dynaflex 230 Clear and you won't even see it.

Im leaning to not use shoe molding

I think it really depends on you. If you like and extra detail and have an extra budget go for it otherwise avoid.

I avoid it as much as possible by installing floors after baseboards.

If your base is as skimpy as the left of picture above? No shoe. What IS the height of the base?

If you have or are redoing base to similar to right picture? No to shoe, unless a very traditional home.

Were you planning to stain or paint shoe?

Paint gets quite nicked up, stained "shortens" the base height appearance.

What is the door style? Style of the house? Do you have cove or whatever trim on top of the base or not?

A scribe of the base to the floor, no shoe, by a competent trim guy? Yes.......

Unless a reason to do otherwise: ).

Such as no clue as to how to scribe. or it's just easier to NOT scribe.....?

No to caulk.....even clear. An immaculate scribe? Caulk is Not NEEDED.

IMO if the flooring is done right no need for shoe mold. As for the caulking I have heard both pros and cons I do not use it or shoe mold.

I live in the se where every house old and new has shoe moulding. Historic houses tend to have taller baseboard and taller base shoe. Never quarter round. I’m working on some projects in Maine where no one has base shoe.

Shoe molding has another practical purpose other than covering imperfect flooring installation in that it helps protect the baseboard from vacuum cleaner scuffs and abrasions.

Context and your baseboard and floor application will tell if you need it or not or if it would be purely cosmetic.

There is need and want. Some people want the shoe molding or some sort of scribe for added detail. Some people need the show molding because of how their flooring install was done.

I would post some pictures of your space so we can see it.

Honestly, I have had both. I couldn't even tell you what I have now ( just shows that it is not noticeable to me )
