The space is very cool looking. I’d find a larger piece of more interesting art, in dark or warm colors, something really eyecatching. The art doesn’t need to match.

Paint is one of the cheapest changes, and makes a lot of difference. Go with a medium shade. You are playing it too safe with that current wall color. In a small room like a bathroom you can go a little nuts (artistically speaking!). You only live once - live it up! Always cringe to see shelves or cupboards over the facilities...they look cluttery and project an uneasy vibe of stuff maybe falling into the bowl.

I like it. In my experience an eye-catching piece of art solves a lot of mini-problems. You can't go wrong with a van Gogh.

If it were me, I’d subtract some things and get it a bit more crisp - i’d remove the rug, the basket of items and have one nice soap dispenser (Polished Jar is my fav) - I don’t think the art is doing much & and there could be more drama there (i could see a grouping of black framed botanicals) — I think it’s a really nice powder room!

Art is a personal thing, so of course go with what you like. If you want an art suggestion, Etsy.com is one good resource, and they have lots of posters and prints. I think something in the art nouveau or art deco category might be striking and fun. There are a gazillion options in that genre - these are just a few.

You mentioned you had considered changing the vanity light. So as another idea, you could keep your current art, and just change that fixture. This light has your gold finish, as well as picking up the black in your art and frames plus floor, etc. It is similar to the light that you already have, but ties the space together more, and also has more impact.

And finally, I do agree with @Elaine Doremus, that you can do a lot with paint, alone.

You could do a couple of the walls in this or another color.

We can't see the tile colors accurately!! It's a powder room! Yes? What is the purpose of that rug, and even the placement of the rug? Due to door clearance? So it is pushed away from the sink? No......: )

Deepen/darken the wall paint color! It's wimpy. Size/impact of the art is as well.

There's nothing wrong with the bathroom, but -- at the same time -- there's nothing really right about it either. It looks perfectly functional. Nothing is mismatched or offensive. By "nothing's really right", I mean, nothing special or unique.

I agree that one larger piece of artwork could be an improvement; a smaller piece of artwork over the toilet would also help. I notice you have no linens -- you need a bar to hold a handtowel to the left of the sink. I'm less convinced that a coat of paint would help, though that is a quick-and-cheap fix. Something about the mirror I don't like, but I can't put my finger on what it is.

Yes that’s exactly how I feel! It’s not “wrong” but nothing is really “wow.” I typically have a basket with linens on the counter but removed it for the photos.

Your floor is the wow, just my opinion.

The tile is great, as is color scheme. One art print in richer colors, probably with a wood frame to echo the vanity or the darker color in the tile. If you did fine fun art, maybe should be a “ bigger” scene, picture or swatches of colors— complementing but contrasting with the smaller, busier tile pattern, like pattern- mixing.

All you need is less coastal wimp, and a bit more drama.. The wall color is your big miss, second only to treating a wee wee wash powder room like a wet as a shower bath: )

Rarely does a powder room need tile. The hardwood in your hall would have been really great.

The tile is saying "Spanish", the toilet and mirror is saying "Modern", the vanity is saying "meh, whatever is affordable" the paint is "maybe this will add some oomph" but doesn't go far enough, and the art is a sad tiny rowboat saying "can't we all just get along".

Continue the tile up behind the vanity and toilet. Replace the round mirror with a rectangle with a much heavier frame that has oomph, and works with the tile's spirit. Darker walls. Bigger and bolder art that says something real to you, and isn't worried about trying to be the peacemaker between all the elements.

The wall color is not doing anything for the space.

It‘s a well kept secret on this forum. In fact, there's basically zero knowledge of it here. But, it has never been a secret to royalty... and the colorway is even ”back” again, among the masses. PPG’s 2024 color of the year is an indication - it is called “Limitless”. And, yes... it is a yellow. If you want a wow, imo, you need a yellow/gold.

Look at a color such as Farrow & Ball’s Cats Paw.

Contrast creates drama in a room. I would suggest your bulbs are just a bit too bright for a room this size. It washes everything in the room out.

Additionally, the art you selected does evoke a feeling. It's just there on the wall. Select something that has more emotion.

A few possible suggestions…..can the vanity light be turned upside down? Some can, some can’t and it may look better flipped down. I would change out the round mirror for a rectanular and pick up a color from the floor tile. I would change the wall paint to something more cohesive with the floor tile.

I see what you are saying. First, I think your current light fixture is upside down. Flipping it so that the globes are on the bottom might help. The toilet paper roll is in a weird place as well, and typically it is to the right of the toilet (maybe you are left handed?). The mirror looks like it might be too low?

I would pull colors from the tile for the walls. I would lean into the gray color and then perhaps accents of navy blue, maybe tan wicker/woven seagrass/jute etc. A new rug, navy, gray, or tan jute. Perhaps new towels to match rug color. You could consider an accent wall where the current toilet paper roll is. This could be as simple as buying some 2x1 unfinished pine and nail to wall a foot apart (vertical or diagonal) and then painting that wall a different color from the other 3 walls. Attaching a pic that has a different design, but you get the point. I personally would lean 3 gray walls and a navy accent wall. Or you could go with a half wall or 3/4 wall with top navy and bottom with wood wall of a different color (see pic below - they used tile for bottom half of wall, but you could just use some 2x1's).

You could get a fairly large shelf/towel rack (wood?) to go on that same wall (pic below, could even go with a lighter wood stain, maybe gold accents?). New/larger art is certainly an option as well, but there are also other things you can put on walls. If you went with a navy blue accent wall, I might lean towards white things to brighten the wall up a bit. Large black and white photos? White shelving, white wall decor, instead of wood? Just throwing out ideas...

Not sure you can flip the fixture and be successful.

Love to see a darker paint color on the walls. Switch out the light fixture, art and area rug and it will come together. Do you need the area rug? If there is no shower or bath, what is the purpose?

Whatever your vision, these principles might be helpful. It’s important to link/connect the vanity, floor, and brass to create a more unified feel; start with the wall color and don’t be afraid of going dark and work with the vanity.

Replace both the mirror and light (downward lighting) with proportions and shapes that are more complementary to each other and especially the vanity.

Art has a major impact. Can go large or consider just over toilet with a brass frame.

The colors in this piece would be perfect and comes in lots of sizes if going with the above ideas. Don’t hang art as high as well.

I think the light fixture overwhelms the space. Something smaller and with a definitive style (which you can repeat in artwork style) would make a huge difference in a small space.

It’s a small powder room so I would go with a little more drama. I would repaint the walls as the space looks too cold. I would pick that rust colour from the tile. Add a larger piece of art. If that doesn’t do enough then you can change out the lighting fixture but you may not need to.
