I'm open to other ideas. I thought we want grout lines on the floor to prevent slippage?

Look at Daltile for the light gray larger format, and you will find many have a companion mosaic 2" size.

Choose a floor tile that has a coordinating mosaic tile for the shower floor. That way, the horizontal planes are unified.

if your goal is a light/white room... looks great!

that said, the shower floor is an opportunity to add color to an all white space.

Penny rounds or small hexes are always a good option for shower floors.

Cloe White has a lot of variation re; shades/color (it is desingated as v4). I would avoid marble because it will be busy also - you need something that works with the Cloe White (unless you are not set on Cloe White - which I personally really like - used it for a surround recently in a bathroom renovation).

@dani_m08 Great point about not wanting too much variation on the walls and floor. We're now leaning toward a 2" hex floor – probably porcelain. A uniform matte white feels too flat/stark and basic. But maybe not? Any suggestions welcome!

I went with a basketweave marble tile for shower floor and bathroom floor because I liked the aesthetics and also because of the grippiness for safety. I was trying to emulate the "feel" of the 1920's bathrooms.

I went with a platinum grout which blended with the tiles and after several years it still looks good.

I also am prepared to hire a professional tile restorer in the event that it needs a deep cleaning. I live in a building with marble tile and periodically they have them professionally cleaned and they look like new.

@Helen I'm sure that looks great! Our home is more mid-century mod, so I think the hex will work well. Just need to find one that I like!

@mtwren I actually like the authentic small rectangular tiles that were often used in bathrooms mid century. They were done in dfferent color palettes

My post was less abut aesthetics and more about how safe small tiles were and that grout maintenance wasn’t an issue for me

I previously had 12” tiles before i remodeled and those were a death trap 😱😱

I have a 2 inch marble hex floor in my bathroom and I love it- but although I have not had any problems with it, whatsoever, if I had it to do over I think I’d use porcelain or ceramic hex instead, because I would not have to be concerned about potential staining.
