we have a similar situation. We wrapped the cabinets only in crown molding the same color as the cabinets. The open wall where there was no cabs we did not add crown.

Did you have a situation where another room’s crown moulding had to end before you reached a kitchen wall? Did the cabinet moulding match the moulding in attached rooms?

All just a blur without some pics of the crown in the rest of the house and the kitchen . I usually take cabinets close to the ceiling and a simple trim no crown since most of my cleants are quite contemporay in style choices.

You created one big room so it has to have one consistent trim package. Leaving one part of the room with crown and the other without will scream diy renovation. Remove the crown in the dining or add it in the kitchen.

Similar question about plant colors - should I just pick the same paint for the walls in the kitchen and dining (dining being the three walls at the bottom of the T), or can I get away with them being slightly different? The only kitchen walls that will be painted will not be readily visible from the dining room

I have the same colors in the kitchen and dining room. The ceiling in the kitchen is the same as the walls. However in the DR, since there is crown, the ceiling is a very pale shade of blue. The adjacent LR has the same shade of blue on walls and ceiling.
