May I ask Why do you want to change the layout of the kitchen? It looks pretty functional. Can you tell me what you don't like about it?

Why dont you measure that aisles in your current kitchen, or set up a mock island using a cardboard box, and set it 42” from your cabinet run and see how small it feels. No kitchen is perfect, every kitchen has compromises deriving frim the mismatch of form and function. Yours may be slimmer aisles than you want, but that may be better than your other options.

The island is too big and the aisles are way too narrow - less than 3’ all around. it is fairly functional but a bit too small for the size of the expanded house. house was originally 1600sqft and last owner added 1500sqft without expanding the kitchen

The plan looks good. You can add a few inches to the sink aisle. But it depends on what rooms are around the kitchen. Post a sketch of the whole floor.

I prefer 48” aisles. The plan is pretty good as is - much better than doing range on cooktop with minimal counter on sides of it. but you slready dislike narrow aisles so depends on whether you want to shrink island further and maybe eliminate seating as you have a breakfast area right there.

What wall are you considering knocking down?

Seems to me that having a dining room, breakfast room, and seating at island is a bit too much. I agree with lharpie that keeping the sink, fridge and range where they are and making the island smaller and eliminating seating is your best bet.

Op wants to get rid of the ov/pantry/wip and fireplace wall I believe in order to have more wiggle around the kitchen but is he willing to place the fireplace somewhere else.

I would definitely miss those windows. Maybe keep what you have as a layout, but make the island 30 inches deep instead of 42 and remove seating.

Thank you all. @Karenseb yes im trying to figure out if i can keep the windows - the designer wants to center the whole room wkth the window and sink but id rather have the view.

i think consensus seems to be to shrink the island. we dont use the dining room - its just a showroom for our grand piano right now so some island seating could be helpful.

Moving a fireplace is going to be a huge expense and undertaking. You need to determine if the cost of that is worth the benefit of getting a larger kitchen.

Hi all - thank you for the feedback! we went back to the drawing board and added a mudroom area. also pushed out a small wall to fit the fridge and re oriented the island. what do you think? im a bit worried about the access width
