Raleigh Fall Swap 2024

last year

The 2024 Raleigh Fall Swap will be held Saturday, September 21 at White Deer Park - Pine Shelter in Garner. The shelter is reserved from 1pm til 4pm. Swapping will begin around 2. Everything will be the same as in past swaps. We are limited to 50 participants.

As in the past we have no rules, you are free to haul anything gardening related to the swap and give it away - this includes live plants, seeds and bulbs, cuttings, pottery, tools and equipment. One thing that sets our swap apart from others is that we do not require you to even bring plants in order to participate. We always have way more plants than people. If you feel guilty taking something for nothing you can always bring food for the potluck picnic.

Brenda, I'm getting my right knee done in Nov. Is therapy painful and a long, drawn-out process?

    Woo hoo.

I visited Cedar Creek Gallery in Creedmore for the first time. They have incredible plants from $2.00 to only $5.00. Examples I bought: Seemannia 'Little Red,' Sinningia eumorpha, Aloysia gratissima 'Punky Brewster,' Dicentra eximia, and Spiranthes cernua. It is also an art gallery with amazing pieces.

Val, I would love Gloxinia Evita. I can bring you Arisaema triphyllum. Will be dormant tubers, two years from seeding. I may also be able to bring you some fresh seeds, if I get a chance to go collecting this weekend.

Karen, it is yours. Arisaema is a great plant.

  • last year

I plan on making it this year, finally!

On a similar note, since I saw in some previous trade threads some folks traded garlic-- what varieties do you guys prefer to grow here? Tis the season to start planning/planting for winter stuff

  • last year

Val, I just learned that I can't make it to this swap, so I'll have to pass on Evita but remind me next time if you're still looking for Arisaema triphyllum.

Sorry you will miss it. I will hold 'Evita' for you, Karen.

I don't know anything about garlic, Jaimie.

Lester, I have a huge pickerelweed. I also have a spring cutting of daphne Marianni, daphne odora ‘Rogbret PP21820.' For another variegated plant, I have a gallon-size Aucuba 'Suruga Benten' too. Let me know if you would like them. I would like the Huernia zebrina, Zamioculcas zamiifolia, Iris ensata 'Variegata,' and the Jade plant.

I am getting e-mails saying I have comments, but nothing is showing up here. Is something wrong with Houzz?

  • last year

Screenwriter, your suggestions sound very interesting. Good to hear that you have a variegated Daphne cutting that survived since spring - we are very eager to add one to our collection.

One thing we would like to clarify is Pontederia - we got something labeled as such from an earlier swap and it turned out to be Peltandra virginica. While their leaves may look similar, the latter is an arum (monocot) and has the typical arum spadix flower and the former has a spike of regular dicot flowers. So if you have seen the flowers of your plant and they are what they should be than we are interested (we prefer blue to white). Otherwise we are also very interested in Seemannia nematanthodes 'Evita' (formerly known as Gloxinia) - hopefully you have more in addition to your commitment to Karen W.

Lester, it is definitely Pontederia and is blue. I have more 'Evita' to share with you.

Tammy, your message isn't showing here. What plants would you like?

  • last year

There is definitely something wrong with this messaging board - we are getting notifications about comments from Camellialover in this discussion that we don't see here.

  • last year

Val - i didn't comment. I just liked a few posts. I did look up some things and am interested in some of what you have, but am scrambling to get ready (it's been a rough week) so i think i'll just take my chances with the general swap. Thanks for checking in, though!

  • PRO

Lester, I want to confirm I have Pontederia cordata, Gloxinia 'Evita,' and Daphne 'Marianni' for you. And you have Crassula ovata, Huernia zebrina, Zamioculcas zamiifolia, and iris Ensata 'Variegata' for me.

  • last year

Screenwriter, we are interested in all items you offered in your first post, including Aucuba 'Suruga Benten' (fascinating change of color in juvenile leaves) - we didn't mean to exclude it by not mentioning it explicitly in our response. Apologies for the confusion.

  • PRO

Lester, I pulled the rest. Is the Colocasia still available?

  • last year
    last modified: last year

Colocasia 'Royal Hawaiian Aloha Oe' is very vigorous (grown in very wet areas or sealed containers) and there is plenty of material but we didn't get to dividing it because of lack of interest and we left early on Saturday. But please remind us before the Spring Swap.

P.S. Incidentally we got it from Ralph, R.I.P.

  • last year

I had several of the Colocasia ’Aloha’ at the swap if you picked up one in the general swap… it was also a offspring of the one i received from Ralph….

  • last year

So sorry but I'm not able to make it this time. Have fun and I'll watch for the Spring swap.

It's been posted - Saturday May 3rd from 10am til 1pm. Everything else is the same.

Thank you, John! If start time is at 10am, does that mean you will be ringing the bell at 10am?

    Thanks, John! You’re the best!

pcgjohnson - I will plan on ringing the bell at 11, but I sometimes get distracted...
