Please post 1 picture of the entire room that shows all 4 walls. Right now the room looks very cluttered so I don't think you need shelves.

You have some nice colors playing well with quite a bit of brown, including the current rug. Would you be open to a more colorful rug than adding more brown with jute? You can play with colors and style (and LOTS of price variations) on some sites. This is rugs direct:

no to shelves. too many random pieces in the room. the dark sectional is overwhelming the space. How about a single sofa and an occasional chair instead?

the drapes are too heavy. with blinds for privacy, you could do a lighter drapery panel, match the wall color to help lighten the very heavy space.

you don't need to hang something on every wall. pick only your favorite things to display.

find a place to mount the mirror, (Near the entry door?) a light patterned area rug larger than 7x10 to add interest and define the space. ruggable.com rugs.com wayfair.com all have very affordable area rugs to choose from. move tree to a window (even if it's faux. needs light to appear real)

It hard to tell exactly where is what from your pictures. Can you draw a simple floor plan on quad paper showing doors, windows, entrance(s) to the room? If not, try to stand back facing each wall and take a picture so that we can see each entire wall.
