Grasses are a late evolutionary development (w/C4 photosynthesis), and will diversify and eventually take over the planet. Read somebody speculating that bamboo would be the primary vegetation in temperate areas in 5 million yrs.

David, is it spreading by seed or by rhyzome? It looks like it might be a Dichanthelium species and Texas has quite a few of them. I grow Deer-tongue Grass, Dichanthelium clandestinum, and it can spread fast because it makes seeds 3 times during the growing season, once by flowering and then 2 additional seedings without flowers, Im having a brain freeze for that word to describe it. Cleistogamous is the term for seeds produced without flowers. Viola species use that method. To get a species ID you would need to closely look at blades, sheaths, and ligules(collars). These are panic grasses that were previously in Panicum.

Thanks Jay, I believe it is spread by both. TBH it may be one of the fastest spreading plants I've ever seen. At least it's native, but still not something I can have in this part of the garden.
