The background color in the Toile

Like a cream color?

If you’re keeping the drapes, yes. Or something similar, depending on how close a match your bedding is to the toile. But first think about the total room. If you still want lilac, the cream ( ivory, whatever ) would be a fresh change & would allow you to use lilac ( and black) accents, art. Or do you want to go in a completely different direction? Because you want to be thinking about that before committing to a paint color, which can be almost infinitely tweaked to match/ complement the other items in the room.

I don’t think the valance is the issue. I think it’s the curtains underneath.

There is an adjoining bathroom. I’d like to keep the lamps and lighting. If I have to I could sew some new window treatments and shower curtain. I do want to change the wall color.

I realize this sewing question is a bit off topic, so I hope you are willing to answer. What kind (or brand) of sewing machine do you recommend that will handle the heavy weights and multi layers of curtains with linings?

I’ve got a Juki model TL2000IQ. It’s one step down from an industrial. It’s a real workhorse. I purchased it from Juki Junkies. They have great customer service.

I also have an industrial blind stitch machine and a Juki DNU-1541 industrial sewing machine.

The Juki TL model and the DNU they are just a straight stitch machine. They don’t do a zigzag or buttonholes. Just straight sewing.

Creamy white like the toile and you could use just a black metal drapery rod with finials. then pick a bright accent color like a couple small red pillows and a plush red throw. The bright color could be a deeper shade of that purple wall color. a deep rose, a bright yellow. just a touch of color in a neutral room.
