When to prune tree form hydrangea paniculata

I have a tree form Limelight Hydrangea that needs some shaping. It sounds like it's best to prune in early spring, but I'm going to be out of the country February through April, and I wonder if May might be a little late. I'd really like to do it this fall or early winter if it wouldn't hurt the plant. Any experts out there who know?

If it needs pruning, you can prune it as early as when it goes dormant in the fall 2024 too. Some people actually prune as soon as the blooms brown out but since pruning triggers new growth and that pruning may happen close to early frosts, avoid getting new growth zapped by waiting until the tree has gone dormant. Enjoy the trip.
