how to extend this wall?

I want to change this fireplace into a stonewall fireplace with maybe some sort of ivory or light gray stones (faux stone? Stone veneer? Haven’t decided).

I would also ideally like to extend this corner fireplace wall to go all the way up to the ceiling (height of ceiling is somewhere between 18-20 feet).

How easy would it be to extend this corner fireplace wall to go all the way up? How much should something like that cost if I were to hire a contractor?

Any ideas on what type of stone to use on the drywall? I was looking into air stone or evolve stone or maybe something from floor and decor (they seem to have the best color options).

Perhaps this is the 1st step to your plan to extend the wall above the fireplace.

Are you planning to do more?

The plant looks dwarfed in the environment with such high ceiling, also squished in the corner. I show a taller one but not really the best place for it.

And you seem to have 2 TVs, one on the fireplace and one on the left. Any reason for that? The one on the fireplace seems quite high for comfortable viewing.

I don't have suggestions re: what type of stone to use on your fireplace (does the faux stone actually look like real stone?) - I just wanted to say that extending it up to the ceiling (even with the drywall as shown in the mock up by lisedv) makes a big difference in updating the room. Great idea!

@lisedv - yeah the first step to my plan is to extend the wall above the fireplace to the ceiling, but only if it isn’t insanely expensive to do so. That’s def what I am hoping to get done. Any idea how much it would cost to get that done?

The two tvs are there because the one above the fireplace came with the house when we bought it, it was uncomfortably high as you are saying so we put our own tv on the side which is way more eye level. Our plan is that once we convert the fireplace to a stonewall, then we can put a swiveling tv frame thing that brings the tv down to more eye level when we want to watch it but keeps it high up when we are not watching. That’s the plan, at least.

@dani_m08 thank you! I really do want to extend to the ceiling and then have full ceiling to floor curtains on the windows on the other side of there room! Hoping it’s not insanely expensive though

I have no idea how much that would cost to do phase 1 but if you go to Floor & Decor they can probably recommend someone to do the work. Call them in for an estimate, and check their references or go see one of their jobs.

Labor is local but when we covered over our fireplace with new framing and drywall to install an electric fireplace along with tiling a long hearth it was $5K not including paint but including demo, framing, tile, drywall and texture. If you turn on your msging I can send you pics of what we had done.

I would simply remove the TV from above the fireplace and extend the drywall to the ceiling.
