trying to decide on a tile layout

last year

Hi everyone, I have a master closet off the main bath that I’m putting a closet system in, but my wife wanted it on tile instead of on the carpet that was in there.

The plan was to rip up the carpet and continue the existing bathroom tile into the closet so it didnt look like an afterthought, but the tile is no longer available (searched everywhere). I was able to get though the same tile just a different size (12x24 instead of the 6x24 that’s in the bathroom).

I’m wondering which direction I should lay the tile… the same as the existing bathroom tile or perpendicular. The two rooms will be separated by a Schluter strip in the doorway. The closet is 9x12 with the long wall running perpendicular to the existing bathroom tile.

2 things- first off, I know tile in the closet isn’t for everyone but that’s what the wife wanted. 2nd, while the tile color isn’t an exact match, it does look closer in person than in these pics. Guess it’s the different lighting in both rooms.

Also, most likely be going with a 1/3 offset regardless of direction (although certainly open to suggestions).

UPDATE: I know it’s not easy to see in the pics, but there’s a pic of the tile going in both directions to see the difference.

My thinking is while going in the same direction may flow better, it may also look like I tried to match it but failed. Where as opposite directions might not flow as well but would at least look intentional. Just my thinking but admittedly I’m clueless when it comes to this stuff!
Thanks!
