4” recessed lights

Has anyone used a good high lumens 4” recessed light for living room? Or also incorporated 2” as well? I’m not going to do any 6” cans and trying to figure out best smaller alternative.

There's nothing wrong with 4 inch.

More importantly, and especially in a living room......NOT all of your light should come from the ceiling.

Nobody can answer your question, minus size of room and location /placement of furniture.

A well kit and attractive room is layered lighting. ambient ( recessed) Task ...such as table lamps and floor lamps for reading or just mood , and accent such as sconces or picture lights.

Nothing is worse than all of it in the ceiling like Swiss cheese, and a living room need not be lit like an operating room.

I use 4" all the time but please do not mix them with 2" and we need context to really help. IMO ceiling pots in the LR are one level of lighting so you still need floor lamps and table lamps too . I like a kitchen to be like an operating room but a LR not so much. We need pics of your spce posted here in a comment DO NOT start another post.

For best selections, go to a local lighting showroom, not a big box store.

We used recessed light from ELCO when we built in 2021. They have different systems and looks, and you can select the lumens and Kelvin that you want.

In the process of putting in 4" Nora Iolite can lights. They come with 3 types of optics (flood-60 degree, semi-flood-38 degree, and spotlight-25 degree). I bought 3000 kevlins. They also have a haze diffuser so is not glaring. I don't have them hooked up yet, so don't know how they work.

You might check out these Maxxima 4 in. Slim Round Recessed Anti-Glare LED Downlights and 2 in. Slim Round Recessed Anti-Glare LED Downlights. The 4" models are very bright at 1200 lumens. Adjustable color temperature. At 36-degrees, the beam angle is about that of a typical PAR20 bulb. Be sure to control them with an LED-compatible dimmer; recommended Lutron LED+ dimmers.

The recessed lighting calculators are everywhere on the internet. It is in part why so many people are misled about recessed lighting and how to design for it. In a Living Room which is inherently a more formal, relaxing, and sitting environment, it is more about layered lighting focused at head height and not performing a lumen calculation for general ambient light across the entire room.
