If you need that configuration of garage, just take the basic shape and detail it like the house instead of something else. You do the same roofing and windows as on the house and the same eave detail on the house. It's the details that are wrong not the whole thing.

What would you think about if the garage was spun around so the gable was in front with the garage doors on the large peak side? Still the carport. Then make the lean to dormer into a gabled dormer. Or would you leave the orientation the same turn the small lean to dormer into a gabled dormer?

If you need to explain these concepts to your architects, it seems that your architects aren’t very good. This is their JOB.

Architects design. You supply the requirements/wants/needs and they turn those into a plan with visuals.

Drafters are not architects. And houses are not Mr Potatohead where you grab the big ears off of one and stick them on a face with the purple fuzzy eyebrows of another, with a violently striped shirt and Carmen Miranda fruit hat.

Think of it as a 'problem' and a 'solution". You tell them the problem and they provide you a solution. It most often works best when you do not provide a solution and then try to fix it with and architect.

Create a list of your wants and needs, determine what architectural style or statement you want the home to make, and give the architect a survey of your site. Meet with the architect and they will explain the way they see the best way to approach your project. Most often the architect will come up with a schematic design they feel will meet your needs and fit your site and present it to you. Then over a period of time they will work with you to refine the design to make as close to perfect as it can be.

If you design the garage for them, then they don't have any work to do. When you interview architects, show them your home, tell them you want a garage that looks like it was built for this house, and ask them what they would do. Ask them what they would come up with and see who speaks to you the most.

You are the one living there. I don't see why showing sample ideas of things that you like to your architect is such a problem.

For me, its the roof lines - the pitches are different as the roofing material is different.

I think if you match those, it will be easier to blend the 2.

You have a pretty home. I think you already know the answer to your question. If it were my home, I would want the garage to match the same style. Do you have an HOA or any neighborhood restrictions?
