if you really need the storage, do it. if you don't, leave it open.

Can you post a dimensioned plan including adjacent rooms? There may be other ways to get the space you need.

I ave no clue without a to scale floor plan. Do one on graph paper to scale show every window , doorway where those lead every measurement clearly marked and all rooms named . If you have all the appliances the size of those is also a good idea Post the plan here in jpeg format in a comment DO NOT start another post Now all things realting to this are dealt with here in comments . I will say that almost always when clients complain about storage I suggest to begin to purge things you do not need to store in the kitchen and oftan just better cabinet storage works too. Right now I will say that plan is not ideal since passing the range to get from fridge to sink always bad design.

I'm having a hard time ling up your photos and the kitchen plans. Can you draw a simple overhead view of your first floor so I better understand how this all connects? If that wall is closed off, how do you enter the space and get to the kitchen?

What is this big area circled in red? A bench, a window? Area that could be storage?

Agree Impossible to say without knowing how this affects the rest if the house flow. It does look like it would push traffic flow through the main work area in your kitchen. i would also say current sink/stove/fridge layout is suboptimal. a prep sink in island would help substantially.
