It doesn't look great, but it is your house and if you really need more storage space, it doesn't really matter what strangers on the internet would prefer!

Thank you all for your thoughts. I agree. It's too deep for the spot and looks inappropriate. It is a beautiful piece though and I love how it blends with the look of my kitchen cabinets. I will continue my search for something more shallow &/or lower in height, maybe 12" in depth instead of 22", which is what this is.

Show the pics to a kitchen cab guy. He may be reasonable about making it 12" deep.

I don't see how because it has legs, unless he removes them. It's a good thought though because I can't seem to find anything 12" in depth. They're all about 16".

Would this piece be a better fit? It's 15" rather than 22" in depth, but higher at 69" rather than 65." I am not crazy about the height blocking light from the living room windows but it does offer good storage. I think it dresses the wall in that I can put decor on the shelves.
