I love trees but that big one is taking over your house. I would take out the 2 tall ones on each side of your front door. How about adding some carriage hardware to your garage door. I think a shallow pergola over your garage door would look nice but the tree would need a major trimming or removal;)

Prune the big tree. Make sure you get someone who knows what they are doing. Believe it or not, that is not a "do it yourself" project, at least not at this time. You can ruin the tree if it's done wrong.

I agree with Margo about the carriage hardware on the garage door and with removal or relocating the two tall shrubs at each side of the entrance. They seem to be covering up windows anyway. Move these to the backyard or give them away to a neighbor.

Another inexpensive way to update is to add some perennials that flower. Don't hesitate to plant on the lawn side of the approach sidewalk. Add some curves to this new planting area.

You don't need much for your house is nearly perfect already. Absolutely remove that tree and replace with flowering, colorful plants. Other than that, it's ready for the cover of a magazine.
