Central Vac Systems

Considering a “Hide-a-Hose” central vacuum system. Does anyone have this type of system and can give feedback please? And if so can you tell me if it’s mounted in the garage or basement? Thank you.

If you search on this forum you will find many older posts with lots of feedback.

I have had central vac in every house I have owned. Every house has also had all hardwood floors throughout and tile in bathrooms/laundry/mudroom. I use oriental hand-knotted rugs in living areas, which should not have a beater bar used on them. Central vac is perfect for hard flooring, specially with dogs.

When we built in 2021, I installed central vac with H-a-H and we are really happy with it. I really like not having to store the hose and move it around.

I'm in FL, so no basements! My house is wide with garages on either end, so I actually installed a central vac unit on each side. Great when 2 people need to clean!

Many people here, now love their cordless vacs, but I don't think the suction compares to that of a central vac unit.

We've used Electrolux central vacs when requested. A main selling feature for the last client was the garage unit ability to vac garage floor & vehicles. Vac pans are a must in a few areas. Haven't used hide a hose.

Most central vacuum systems suck.

I think Central Vac made sense back in the 70s when everyone wanted wall-to-wall shag carpet ... but now that hardwood has made a return, and I personally think it's going to stay /wall-to-wall was the trend that has now disappeared, I question its value.

Theresa. I get what you’re saying but room size area rugs and furniture still has to be vacuumed. And dragging a “machine” around, whether it’s a canister or upright can raise havoc on hardwood. I’ve always had CV but never the “hide-a-hose one…

I've used central vac since I was a kid in the 80's. My mom used it a lot for her hardwood floors, stairs, dusting, furniture etc. At some point she got an electric powerhead so she could also use it on her area rugs and wall to wall carpeting. Back then, the hoses felt much heavier because they were wire-reinforced and could really damage baseboards if you weren't careful. I built a house about ten years ago and had central vac installed because I missed using one when I had my very own first house. At the time, my builder didn't offer hide a hose but I had one HAH inlet installed on the main level of my house by a different central vac installer. Our unit is out in the garage which I prefer over the basement. It makes it really easy to clean out your cars and garage. Personally, I prefer my MD bagged unit over my last bagless Vacuflo.

I think central vacs are great if you like to use attachments a lot on different surfaces in your home. For us, we have a dog and it's nice to be able to do the furniture, dust, do the baseboards, etc. with the central vac. I use ours once a week but for day to day cleaning, I do tend to reach for one my cordless Dysons.
