Exterior house colours - need a refresh

Hello, we have lived in our new house for about a year. The house is very tall from the street. I recently planted a boulevard cherry tree to provide a bit more grounding to the height.

I am now in the planning stages of painting the exterior. I would like to get rid of the dark brown colours of the shutters and update the brown stucco colour.

My style is french cottage. I would love some help with choosing a soft, more romantic look for this house!

I would go with lighter version, may be warm off-white.

I'd get rid of the shutters altogether. You only have one window where they fit. I'd go with a warm cream for the stucco. It will go with your shingles and stone, but remove the brownish tone.

It's hard to identify your plantings, but French romantic screams roses to me. Rambling roses overhanging your upper stone wall would be very charming. Now, you can get them to bloom pretty much all season, if you pick the right variety.

I actually like the color the house is. It all blends nicely together with the roof. I think the one window with shutters, actually adds a bit of interest, so I would leave the shutters. If you really need or want to paint, warm cream would be a good color. I agree with the rambling roses. They would also hide some of that gray wall, which doesnt go with the rest of the house.

Thank you both for your comments! And YES to rambling roses, I literally was googling how to attach a climbing rose support to stucco last night :-) I do think I'll keep the shutter, as it adds interest to the house. Both of you have suggested warm cream for the stucco, which is what I was also thinking. I just wasn't sure if it would be too washed out since we have western sun exposure at the front of the house. But perhaps leaving the shingles as they are, and painting just the stucco will update the house without a complete re-do. Could I ask what colour then do you think I should paint the railings, and shutters?

I really like the current colors you have, far more than cream. The current scheme feels layered and gives your home more dimension. It also ties in nicely with the roof. While I'm often a fan of creme, it leaves your home looking a bit flat.

Thank you everyone for the comments. I am going to go with lightening up the stucco area. When I look back at the pictures I posted, they aren't really conveying how muddy brown the stucco is, it's a very "heavy" brown, with a yellow tinge. Taking that undertone away and giving it a bit more of a neutral cream will be pleasing to the eye, especially once the garden and other accents are addressed. I really appreciate everyone's comments, and taking the time to give feedback. Thank you!
