Stick with colonial

Personally, I wouldn't mix styles - your house is a colonial style - prairie style muntins don't belong on a colonial home.

I am not sure that it would cause a hit on the value of your home whenever you sell it - most people don't really pay attention to the style of home they have when they make updates to it. Look at all of the "McMansions" that have been built - they combine various elements from different types of styles all in one home. Regardless of whether they would or wouldn't affect the sale of your home in the future, I still would not change them to the prairie style ones personally.

If that was my home, I would save up my $ in order to replace your faux shutters with ones that are either (i) functional, or (ii) appear to be functional. You'd be surprised at how much better a home looks with nice shutters. The faux flat shutters that are attached to the siding of the home vs. attached to the casing/trim around the window look 2D - operational ones (or faux ones that appear to be operational) provide a 3D look. It really does improve the appearance of the home.

Stay with colonial. The Prairie style will definitely look odd on your house.

@dani_m08 Thanks a lot for your suggestion! I never thought much about those shutters, yeah, I don't see the point of them but most houses here have them. I will definitely do research about the 2D or 3D options and explore more on it.

Agree with colonial ( even though I doubt that it would affect resale value if not ).

Prairie grids are for cottage style houses. You are best to stick with 6/6 or 6/1

Colonials with double hung windows are usually done with a 6 over 6 grid. If the windows are casements, they are 6 or 8 grids depending on height. Obviously you can do no grids at all.

There are also windows with just the girds on the top ( 6 over 0 ), 4 over 4 and even 2 over 0 , which is nice.

I don't think I would worry about the neighbors. Windows aren't something that gets changed often, if at all, during the time you are in the home. Get what you like but make sure it suites the house ( the prairie just doesn't) . Having new windows is added value to the home.

If you go prairie and remove the shutters you will then not have a colonial house so maybe a big change . I do not think the prairie belong with the shutters and I totally hate cookie cutter neighbothoods where all the houses are the same so if I was buying I would choose the odd man out

Would love to see those shutters replaced with real operable shutters.

I may be wrong, but Prairie style windows makes me think of arts and crafts style cottages.
