hallway wall thoughts

Unsure if I should do a gallery wall for this entire area (left of stair rail) or keep the stair only wall bare. The opposite wall of the stairs has a fun colorful picture. Also, if I only do the upstairs portion should it be half the wall ( imagining if there were a chair rail) or the entire wall. Matted frames for most likely family? Same size frames or mix it the sizes up or a gallery wall with whatever we like! A million ideas going through my head. I just don’t want it too busy since it’s a small space. Thanks!

I would get some family pics in black and white and have them colored like the art you already have! Maybe just 3 pictures. It would be fun

I am not a fan of framed family art in public spaces.

I would definitely change out the light fixture. a semi flush mount with a diffuser, like a drum shade. that ball just glows a harsh light.

The entire wall going up to my second floor is filled with framed family photos. I love it, and I love looking at them every time I go up or down the stairs. So does everyone who comes into the house. "Public" rooms in private residences--what does that mean? Who is the "public" that's roaming through your house that will be offended or put off by your family's photos????

It's a big job, and it took me quite a few days to hang the photos, but it was worth it. If you have great photos and great memories of your family, why not display them?

I think it would be wonderful to add a gallery of family photos!!! I would have them printed in black and white and let the art stand alone.

Before you decide on what to hang, change out the ball light in the hall. The quality of light is terrible and mostly illuminates the ceiling and air return.

A surface mounted can light would direct the light down and provide better quality of light to the area.

These come in different diameters. Make sure the one you select is at least 5" in diameter to accommodate the proper light bulb.

A standard bulb is what you do NOT WANT in a surface-mounted can light.

Thank you. Yes, agreed the lighting is poor from that fixture. Sadly it matches the lighting at the bottom of the stairway ( however, a mounted light would blend in nicely) and also our foyer larger light. This consideration will be next, but should the light be considered before any additional picture placement?

I think you can hang the photos either prior to or after you install a new light fixture.
