Which layout do you like? Lakeside cottage small kitchen.

Trying to decide if the attached island is a better or worse idea than just the island alone. What do you think? FYI - there is no room to make the island bigger or move it. It is what it is.

I prefer the U shaped kitchen. You get a great amount of continuous counterspace that way.

With the penninsula you lose the access to the drawers where the penninsula attaches. Hence, you may want to put doors on the side where you have the kitchen table. Basically with the penninsula you have added two corner cabinets that often are difficult to use effectively. My advice, count how many cabinet shelves or drawers you will have in each configuration and go from there.

How many people usually work in the kitchen? The island enables more than one, the peninsula makes it a ”one-butt kitchen”.

What about peninsula without the attached island? As shown it is a G, what if it is a U?

Actually I am thinking keep the island. My MIL’s kitchen went from a U to a galley, with table at the end, and it made all the differnence.

Ps. Since the sink will be in the island, give some serious thought to the faucet you will use there and how the countertops will be designed. No one wants to sit behind a sink and get sprayed, but beyond that, wet fingers tend to pool water behind the fixture at the on/off valve. It happens behind the sink at my brother’s house (but I’m the one it drives mad).

have you ever had a lake/cottage/ vacat place? I prefer our standard sized fridge. We dont leave food when we leave. We purchase on the way in just what we need and buy locally Freezer will hold a couple power bowls/ frozen veggies ..dont need a freezer stuffed and risk freezer burn. . I'd eliminate the tall pantry ...get a standard fridge and a small counter microwave on the diagonal w a little more counter in the corner would be my choice. think if you can execute a banquette construction project as shown later on.....itll tighten up the seating and be more inviting/casual. If you can move chairs away from ISLAND a bit I'd get a small cart at that open end of island for grab n go chips/crackers/fruit in baskets. People snack and eat at different times / different ways so having a variety of things within reach has worked ...it will save you fetching and serving people all the time.....let people find/reach and take / a needed aspect in small kitchens when on vacation .

if you can plan for a tightened up seating whether round table or a banquette against wall...maybe built later.......I'd do ISLAND PLAN w adjustments to fridge and your corner and find a spot at the end of island for presentation/layout using a small cart. You wont believe how handy this will be
