Hello. We are currently having flagstone decking done around our pool area. We have a step (that will eventually step down to a gravel area and second pad you see) that has thermal bluestone as a coping so-to-speak for the step area (there is lighting underneath). Most of the decking was done and then lighting team came in and wired for lights in steps, then the masons attempted to finish the flagstone deck. What happened? #1 they used a different mortar than the rest of the deck, and #2 did they put down the thermal stones first and then just cut stones like puzzle pieces to fit? The whole deck is done in a french pattern. Should they have carried that to the edge and then cut for the pattern and then added the step stones? They said they will come back and fix it to match the rest of the deck but I don't have much confidence in this team (they have already had to correct a fair amount of mistakes). Are there any experts here that can see what happened that could give me advice so when they come back I know what to say to them to sound like I know kind of what I am talking about? Photo #1 is the other part of the deck they did where it met an existing stone step and no issues there.
