Waht do you mean by apartment friendly ? IMO hooks with coats never a nice look but a good coat closet is a must so a nice large coat closet would be my chice inside it can be many things to control entry mess like a rack for shoes , space for dog stuff and even some kids toys that go to the park and coats

I'd get a wardrobe / closet furniture with hooks inside. I too am an apartment dweller and think in an apartment it is especially nice to have the decluttered look of storing things behind doors instead of out in the open.

I agree that a beautiful vintage armoire would be perfect. If you prefer new items then go with a new armoire.

I think PB and Ballard have similar units you can put together and take with you when you move.

I agree with the others, but will offer another idea. I'm assuming you already have coat/shoe storage on the other side of the foyer per the door swing. You could put a comfy velvet chair in the corner with maybe a wicker trunk beside it. Add some high shelves for storage, a few books and some pictures/art.

Between a wide rug, anything on wall that feels substantial (select based on your needs and what can be used in the future), and a pendant (take when leaving). The combination will fill that space visually and suggest looking on Marketplace, especially if open to refinishing.
