I need to see the rugs in the rooms . I agree looks like you tried to match and missed . At least post pics of the rooms so we get some feel for your style . I actually do not like rugs in DRS so way not get a really fab one for the LR that you love and do some other decor for the DR

haha there's not much in the room yet :) the dining table will go under that light fixture (which we will be replacing with the black chandelier) and the couches will be positioned so one is parallel to the dining table and the other facing the big window. so in other words, there will be a couch between the two rugs... thanks for your time and thoughts!

Skip the rug under the dining table. This is a big quandry here...how to match rugs in an open plan.

One large rug to hold the living room furniture in your open plan defines the space in front of the big windows.

For the dining table, a counter height table and chairs would give a sightline to the TV over the heads of those seated in front.

Please no high table for actual dining.ever .Many people do not like sitting on a stool for any length of time. Yes I mean one really large rug for the LR would be nice . Please do not buy art to work in a space only art you love always . The teal is never a color I like so hard for me to like that quite boring rug but IMO this is achoice made after all the rest of the furniture is chosen and ideally in place .

We had a counter-height table as our dining table. NO STOOLS....regular dining chairs with backs, just long legs with a rung for the feet. Never uncomfortable even with a long meal.

We have a counter-height set similar to this with the table legs at the corners. Very nice.

You could get a jute rug, maybe something compeletly different from the living room. This faded Persian might be different enought to not clash.

I'm not recommending this furniture maker per se, just for example.

From the images provided, the artwork seems to clash with the rugs. Look for artwork that has primary blue and teal colors in order to make things feel connected. Note the rugs and artwork used in these dining room designs of ours below:
