I've never seen anything like that. Making a purchase at that price point only to destroy it's design seems counter productive. What's behind the glass insets in the doors? I'm thinking the peach showing through is not original.

It’s not worth anything to ME because I’m not into retro. I would expect its value to be tied to its retro features, though, and updating it would destroy the value.

I have an acquaintance who has a retro furniture business but I don’t know how active/profitable it is.

Would you say it's mid century or some other style? Any guess as to what the wood might be?

Yes, I would call it MCM, or at least the bottom part. I wonder if that mirror thing has been added? I've never seen anything like it either, and I lived through that era. If you buy it, please do not change the legs, it will ruin the value of the piece.

Have you seen this piece IRL or only a picture? The top does seem out of sync with console & I wondered if one could determine from looking at back if top was an add on. The base is pretty & hardware seems original. I agree it has an MCM look & I also agree with @woodrose77 that changing legs would destroy any value - as well as change the look completely & not in a good way. That top piece though - looks like a little picket fence - just odd.

I did go and see it and it was added with a metal thing, but yeah I'd remove it if I ever buy it. Also it looks to be 80% veneer wood and only the legs and a few other pieces are solid wood. Also I think it needs a bit of restoring because it's not in top shape, especially the inside parts

As long as the added piece didn’t put any holes in the top, the removal of it shouldn’t create problems. It probably is ’solid’ wood in that the veneers are applied to solid wood body - no plywood or MDF there. I think that most furniture of that era, with the pretty wood grains and patterns that we like, is created using veneers. If there’s no or minimal edge chipping or damage of the veneer then it’s in great shape. The top on this piece looks good & I think the matching circles on each side are created by dust with something having been sitting on top & removed. I wonder what was original backing of the glass inserts on the doors. Certainly not that pinkish color cloth / paper.
