Island & Peninsula Outlets: Changes to Electrical Code Requirements

Outlets on an island or peninsula are no longer required by NEC Code. However, IF you get outlets on your island or peninsula, they must now be the POP-UP type of outlet. Code no longer allows plug strips or outlets on the sides, front or back of your island. Pop up installs are quite a bit more expensive and you'll lose some island storage.

Who wants a 4" hole cut into their quartz or granite?

Any opinions on this? If you have a pop-up, do you like it?

Not aesthetically attractive in my opinion. I'm so tired of these rules and regs attempting to protect everyone from taking responsibility for their own actions and those of their children.

This is incorrect, and has been gone over many times. Only the states on the 2023 NEC cycle follow that change, and most of them have superseded it with a opt out at a local level. Because it is stupid. The cycle before requires 2+ island outlets, and is in force in more of the US than the 2023. And even more are on the previous cycle.

There is already massive talk of repeal.

Unfortunately, too may parents are stupid which is why we have to have laws mandating car seats for small children. We need laws to protect those children from a scalding Crockpot of chili which some idiot adult placed on the island and plugged into the wall.
