No, not me. I grow it but spray it. I have two plants of it in the ground and both are only about 2 1/2 to 3' and not very branched out. I've seen some much better plants of it on hmf. I think my two don't get enough moisture. But I think it's a tough rose and it looks like an OGR. It's supposedly very fragrant but I never smell much fragrance. I am not sensitive to some fragrances but am to others.

It has medium sized blooms and lots of thorns. Here's what Celestial Rose had to say about it. She lives in a cold zone, NH I think.

It's a beautiful color. The short size can be appreciated.

Harlow Carr is a healthy, compact, bushy and bloomy shrub for me. I don’t spray and have high Black Spot pressures, but HC is never affected. We do have different strains, so I don’t know if it would be the same for you Dianela. I did have a love-hate relationship with it for years and so many times nearly SP’d it because of those hideous thorns, plus the scant fragrance that Erasmus mentions, but it’s other excellent qualities really won me over in the end.

Thank you for the replies Erasmus and Nollie. It is such a shame it isn’t very fragrant but I can deal with the thorns. The black spot resistance (lack of) really is my main issue with the Austin’s. I think I may need to try this one.

Dianela, I'm not surprised that Harlow Carr has little fragrance. Its name means "stinking bog" in old Norse. I just had to post that tidbit. But then we have a rose called Dee Lish, a well known dog food (just joking). Diane

Well I never knew that Diane! I guess the conditions can be boggy in the valley setting of the beautiful historic garden in Yorkshire, England it is named after.

The lack of fragrance has always been a puzzle to me, because some growing it in the UK say it has good fragrance.

Harlow Carr was one of the only roses I deliberately shovel pruned. I found its blooms to be tiny scruffy mum-like clusters on an ugly bush. I kept it 3 years - mine was grafted from David Austin - then gleefully shovel pruned it. Obviously others disagree with me, but I just hated the way the bush hit my eye. I don't recall particular BS pressures, but I have high tolerance for blackspot anyway.
