I need help decorating my home.

just got a new construction and I don’t know where and how to start. I bought the major pieces of furniture but I don’t know anything about color matching. I do know I like black, grey, cream/white and gold accents. Please where should I start or what should I get. I need like an interior decorator at this point.

Congrats on your new home, Esther! It sounds like you have a beautiful base color palette in mind with black, grey, cream, white, and gold accents. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get started:

    1. Define each room’s mood and purpose: Think about how you want each room to feel. Black and grey create a grounding, sophisticated feel, while cream, white, and gold accents add warmth and elegance. Use these to set a welcoming tone in the main living areas and a calming vibe in the bedrooms.
    2. Add an area rug for texture: Start with an area rug to anchor each main space, such as the living room. A neutral rug in a cream or grey with subtle patterns will pull everything together without overwhelming the room.
    3. Choose paint colors for walls: Use a soft grey or warm white as a base wall color to keep things light and open. You could go bolder with an accent wall in black or a rich charcoal for depth and contrast.
    4. Incorporate lighting: Layer in lighting, which is key for balancing the colors. Try gold or black metal light fixtures, such as chandeliers or pendant lights, to add a hint of luxury.
    5. Add decor and art with color: Introduce black and gold accent pieces, like picture frames, throw pillows, or vases, to bring in personality. Artwork with touches of these colors can unify the look.
    6. Consult with a decorator if needed: If it still feels overwhelming, it might be worth having an interior decorator help refine the color choices and layout. They can provide ideas tailored to your furniture and style.

Take it room by room, and soon everything will come together beautifully!

Congrats on your new home! What a fabulous wall of windows in your living area. Really stunning!

You purchase items that can really be dressed or styled many different ways, so great start! Now you'll need to layer things in to develop a finished look. Here's an option to keep in mind for colors/style:

Main living room - if you mainly like shades of black/gray/white, chose from those colors to pick your main layer of items:

    - large rug (at least 8x10

    - large artwork above sectional

    - TV stand or entertainment center

You will want to add some accents that bring back in the "warmth" so the room doesn't get too cold or sterile (black/white/gray tends to feel this way). For example, I would add a coffee table that was a light wood similar to your floors. This would add that "warmth". You could also bring that wood tone with some natural shades for your windows.

I like the example below from this design firm that shows how a pop of wood tone from the coffee table keeps this space from being boring and flat with just gray and white: https://www.houzz.com/photos/alamo-ca-farmhouse-full-service-design-firm-open-concept-living-and-dining-r-farmhouse-living-room-phvw-vp~14919664
