Pictures didn't post.

It’s a beautiful piece of furniture. Doesn’t look like it needs “ updating “ to me ! What don’t you like about it ?

I agree it’s beautiful. In a clients house we applied pink grass cloth to the back to lighten it up- worked great

Yes grasscloth is what I was envisioning. Your Picture isn’t showing up and I noticed my post only shows two of the five I posted.

It's really lovely. I would not paint it. A classic like that doesn't need "updating".

I can see two of Intriguing Interiors pictures, and two more if I click on the blank placeholders. I can't see Hallett & Co.'s at all.

It's a beautiful piece and I would keep it. I like Hallett and Co.'s idea with the grass cloth. You can put it on a piece of cardboard and change it out when you get tired of it.

I cant see all the pictures either. I was here once before today, and couldnt see any. Now, I see a couple. Its gorgeous, please do not ruin that beautiful cabinet with paint, or doing anything to it. Its fantastic, just the way it is.

Now I see the photo. I like the idea of grasscloth and the international hotel vibes.

I agree with those saying leave it as is but have comments for others with pieces they are unsure about refinishing. It's a shame whoever applied what appears to be Poly-Shades didn't ask around before doing it. If and when you must refinish an old piece,find out what kind of topcoat is already on it. Shellac and lacquer can be renewed to look original but once any kind of poly is applied the bridge has been burned.

Something along the back wall, like the pink grass cloth, give it a new life. I love antiques so I think it’s beautiful and perfect.
