I was thinking a sectional but this may be better and more modern options. QQ- I’m pretty sure the blue line is your suggestion on the TV however what is the green line? a walkway or possibly a sofa table?

Please don't put a sectional in this space. It eats up too much space.

Lightening up the walls with a warm ivory paint color will also help. SW Antique is a good neutral.

I agree with Beverly’s layout and @shirlpp’s insistence on avoiding a sectional. If you are planning on getting rugs, make sure to measure with painter’s tape on the floor. You want the front feet of the furniture on the rug at the least.

Buying either a rug or a sofa gets their room started. It also helps you begin a color scheme.

We need room measurments!🤗 also with furniture layout….think about how you prefer to watch TV…do you prefer a comfy chair with ottoman…do you like to put your feet up?

When getting the room floors refinised and walls painted..I would remove the strange shelving on each side of the fireplace too!

To me, the area between the windows doesn't look large enough for the TV.

Kcooz07 agree with you on that…I think the tv needs to go on opposite wall…but I need room layout and measurments first.

dg, what size TV do you have or aspire to have? The absolute largest that would go between the windows would be 65", and that would totally fill the space, maybe even overlap a drop.

Okay, that's about 49" wide, so would fit if you decide to put it there.

Because tvs have a high pixel count, you can sit very close without losing picture quality. 65" is the minimum I'd look at. And 77" is now in the affordable for many range, with BF coming up. I'd see what can be done with your floor refinishing before thinking about wall colors and furniture fabric. If you can get rid of yellow and orange in the floor with a light pale brown tone, options will be good for current colors. This is European Oak.

The layout meant for this space is large square sofa with console table/cabinet/stool seating in back, opposite the fireplace. The interior wall has the matching chair pair with a console cabinet, table or bookcase between them — Go classics drinks cabinet?

The shelving around the fireplace is an English Georgian touch, added later, but pretty fantastic — just needs a little help! Take that all the way up to the ceiling top, with fewer shelves, and give its base legs!

dg, since you mentioned this is going to be the TV viewing room, I wouldn't put it over the fireplace-it will be too high for best viewing. Especially because you have other options.

What size couch should I go with?

I was going to suggest Beverly's layout, but mirror-reversed so that the TV is on the big open wall rather than squeezed between two windows.

Do consider a sofa with chaise or some more caual comfortable seatind configuration. And add a big ottoman to use as a table or for added layout options. This site shows many ways to compose your main relaxing space. Sectionals | Anabei

There are a lot of couch-with-chaise styles now. Facing the long wall with the tv on a console will be preferable to putting it over the fireplace. Here are some comfy-and-pretty couches. Color can also be a plus!

I would remove the shelves on either side of the fireplace - just too busy for a short wall.

Think about how you like to use your living room and how often and how many guests you generally have.

What you want to avoid is oversized furniture and too much furniture.

Furniture always looks much smaller in the huge showrooms than what it looks like in your home.

Knowing how you use your space makes decisions much easier.

My sister and her husband moved to an assisted living apartment with a tiny living room. They placed their recliners across from the TV and hung the TV over a small sofa. They could watch TV when it was just the two of them, but could turn off the TV and have three people on the sofa across from them when they had guests. When they had more than 3 guests - dining chairs were pulled in.

Not every living room needs a sofa.

How many guests do you want to accommodate? So many great suggestions. I will draw up a 3-D rendition with some additional suggestions. Don’t think I can top the ones you already have but it’s always fun to add new thoughts.

Mae-Thank you!!! At least 5-6 would be great since the room is not that big. I know I do not want tv over the fireplace or couch facing the long wall. I found a sofa with 2 recliners built in that I’m considering but not completely sold on it yet.

Please hold off on furniture until we can get the 3-D rendition built for you. but that does help to know what you like.

The space above the fireplace is the perfect spot for the t v. And, yes, you can install it safely. So, read this article before you say no.

I see that the front door opens into the living room. With t v over the fireplace, you can position a sofa facing fireplace/tv and at the same time you are making an entry into the room.

Keeping the fireplace free of a television is a good design decision IMO.

Mae Day- Yes, I’m open to all recommendations.. my initial thought was why would u put the couch facing a wall when there are two windows to look at especially when not wanting to watch TV but, I’m not a designer and I don’t have the “vision” you and others do. I’m grateful to all to receive the advice.

dg, I think it depends upon how much you watch TV. I wouldn't put it over the fireplace and putting it between the windows limits the size. If you put the couch or 2 chairs in front of the windows, you would still have options to look out the windows. Either couch or chairs would be perpendicular to windows. As in elcieg's second pic.
