Having kids in a small apartment will always feel busy! 😃 this part of your life is about their schedules and development.

one idea would be to enclose the coats. an armoir maybe? another idea is to move the kid space into their bedroom, but that may not be practical. Perhaps loft beds so they have more floor space in the bedroom?

I actually think the room is set up well. And it is pretty tidy considering you are three or four people in a three room home.

I was thinking about having cabinets instead of the open storage. the kids love playing in the living room, but it can be distracting to look at. Were maxed for storage in their bedroom!

I think you have alarge space where the bookshelves and coats are that is totally wasted do a nice built in that is a coat closet and kids stuff put away at the end of the day . Some art on the LR walls no fake plants and what is the very traditional TV stand all about? We had 3 kids in a small married student housing unit and the big thing was all the kid stuff put away at night so you can enjoy the LR as adults .

The sofa definitely belongs on the blank wall. Like option 2… the first layout does not feel right

Another idea. since the kids dominate the living room, instead of sending them to play in their bedroom, carve out a mom space in your bedroom. A reading chair, a pivate TV, a beautiful comforter and your favorite art.

You might show more photos of the space. It feels disjointed with the small images. Stand back and take a few full shots of the space. Right now, it doesn't seem cluttered at all.
