Help with kitchen design please

last year

I recently purchased an apt unit and would like to expand the kitchen by adding the adjacent room to the kitchen which you see in the attached picture. However there is now a supporting column and I think the new expanded kitchen has enough room for an island. I also would like a wall to wall storage space on the opposite side of the countertop with a coffee/tea corner. The builder is suggesting a peninsula and more counter space connecting the column to the existing countertop. But in that case I think there will be wasted space. But of course I may be wrong. I enjoy cooking so spend quite a bit of time in the kitchen. I do appreciate suggestions as to how I can use this space efficiently unfortunately with a column in the middle. Many thanks.

Redo that to scale using the graph paper squares. For example, you've used 4 squares for 34" at the column and 12 squares for 60" between the column and the main counter. That doesn't compute.

That's a big column. You can include it in the interior of an island.

Thank you. I will try to rescale, was rushing to post this. So an island perpendicular to the countertop and parallel to the windows using the column as a starting point would be doable. I saw a few islands with a column integrated on Houzz before but the columns were not as big.

Good guess..........based on wrong scale but with dimensions, 11' x18' all.

No matter what.....it has LIMITS. You haven't enough width to use the wall opposite the column

Thank you so much. Looking at the measurements I have I think I can work on the scale. Jan, I appreciate the visuals on the layout which is very helpful. So instead of an island if they build a peninsula extending to the column then there is enough space for wall to wall storage and coffee counter.

It' s math....11 feet is 132 inches....if you use TWO sides of the kitchen ( 48 inches for counters and allow for passages of 48 inches either side of the OBSTACLE? You are literally locked in or out of the room 2 inches two pass it.

The way I have it is really the only logical way to improve what you have and get what you want.

It's only a half height wall at the end of the sink run. You can't WALK that direction . You wont fit . : ) No point in leaving a gap

Hatch marks are a 4" x 42 wall by the exact 24 inches plus[- end at the column. A dishwasher door has to CLEAR the column

You refine on your site......with EXACT dimensions

If you don't need a dishwasher? Center the sink beneath the window..- but you don't want a DW between a range and the sink......

Thank you, Jan, for details. Im not sure if they will be willing to change the location of the sink as the apt has a total
Of 15 units and thus the. Holder may not be willing to do extra work. I think the sink being in front of the window will look nice and also be functional. I do not understand why we would need a wall there. Do you suggest that a countertop should also be installed on that wall -hatch marks-? Thank you
