The problem with replacing this with a freestanding tub (which you should do, IMO) is that you'll have to match the floor tile underneath the tub. The same would be true if you just did a dop in because it's unlikely you'll find a replacement tub that has the exact same dimensions.

Personally, I think whirlpool tubs are a bad idea. They're loud and they lose their appeal quickly vs. a simple soaking tub. If you really want a hot tub experience, I'd just put in a hot tub in your backyard.

Sadly, I think this bathroom is due for a complete remodel.

How about a nice deep alcove soaking tub with or without air . I have found most of my clients who wanted Jaquzzi type tubs used them for a bit tnad then never used them at all. I love a deep soaker I bathe every night and with an alcove you tile the walls and it is done and no steps . Believe me when I say you will not like a FS tub they are awful to get in and out of and you have to almost stand on your head to clean the wall behind.

Airjets tubs are more hygenic than water jets. Consider where tub filler plumbing will go to narrow your tub style choices. Definitely demo the current tub. If you can’t find exact replacement tile for demo area, then do a tile in that area that makes it look like a purposeful design choice to create a special “tub zone” floor.

Measure the middle window wall and if it is too short for a standard size 60” free-standing tub or drop-in tub, you may still need a deep ledge behind the tub. Small bay shaped alcoves make it hard to fit in a tub.

Yes, I definitely want to remodel the whole bathroom. This house is 20 years old. We did put in a granite counter when we did the kitchen. The tile shower needs to be redone but we want to keep our glass door. Our budget is thin as we just replaced 15 windows with casements and some fixed like the big window above the tub that was 2 rotted double hung and replaced LR and MBdrm leaking patio doors with 2 sliding doors. All have Pella blinds between the glass. We are replacing the vinyl siding as well with LP Smartside as it made the most sense to do windows and siding at same time. We replaced the roof 4 years ago. I am totally good with a different tiled area for the tub. If I had the money and my way, I'd redo the entire floor and put heat under it! I just don't know about the platform thing. I want to be able to get to my windows from the floor. I WISH I had hired an architect and probably will when it comes time for the hardscape and deck redo in the next 2 years.

Marylut that tub is a 72", that wall with center window is 84" and each side window wall is 36"

Have you ever cleaned and sanitized a whirlpool tub? I had a water jet one in my 1991-2005 house...never again. The next owners of that house took it out completely. Soaking and free-standing tubs have largely replaced whirlpool type tubs these days.

You will DIE with no jets? Too many projects !!! Not enough resources. So you save, wait, and probably gut the bath.

JAN it is 20 years old and no I won't DIE with no jets. At least that's not my plan. Thanks for the insight. Maybe I'll just go ahead and put the pool in instead and let someone else deal with it.

The air jet tubs are a tleast a lot more snaitary but you need to really think about how you bathe and how often jets would be nice . As for all the rest we need a to scale floor plan of the whole space and a bit of a clue as to how far you want to go in this bathroom reno . Post the plan here in jpeg format in a comment your exterior issues in differnt post but this space all now dealt with here in this post

No jets…free standing tub..we tore it out last year and so happy with the results!

You're probably looking at $3-4k for just the whirlpool tub.

salonva thank you! Perfect input. You know if I find a freestanding with a shower wand, no jets that might be perfect. The other think I hate about the platform is when mice start looking for a way in, the find their way to the tub and can't get out. Life in the country!
