Help with offset and painted fireplaces

We just bought this house. The builder was known for these walls with offset fireplaces. The room behind this also had one but the brick is not painted. The previous owners did not do a good job of painting the brick. We definitely do not want to take it down nor do we want to strip it. The walls have just been painted a warm grey. I am very happy with that. The trim is white throughout the house and you can see that we have a blue sectional with grey and blue ottoman. Would you try to do a german schmear treatment in white again? I'm actually thinking of a charcoal grey or even black. Can someone show me what that would look like? Also the shelves are coming down in the corner. We will probably put a plant or lamp there. We are also going to get a set of tall fireplace tools for the right side. I appreciate any advice.

To me it looks like that is what they tried and now to try to redo that finish will just be a hot mess Paint it like the walls only in a sheen easy to clean or strip it and start over and while you are at it remove those goofy shelves and lower the TV too.Does that FP actually work I see candles in there . I think if it does not work make that wall a nice media wall with the TV maybe check out Ikea Besta for a nice media wall design maybe even a n electric FP some storage and a bit of display/

I suggest you remove the wood .framing on the fireplace bricks and then white wash the bricks and floor tiles. Install a new wood mantel and place some decor for balance. Place a bookshelf with doors on the left side of the fireplace. Replace your firescreen with a more decorative one.

I also suggest you lower the TV to a proper height and place a TV cabinet under the TV, it can be a wall hung unit if you don't have space for a floor model.

Place a large area rug, coordinate with additional pillows, place a large tray with decor on the ottoman.

We had a brick fireplace that we tiled over. I think the fireplace tools on the side are a good idea. It will balance things out.

If you decide to paint, then I agree with Patricia to paint it the wall color. You can use accessories to pull in color

We like the idea of painting the brick to match the wall. We’ll clean first with muriatic acid. Any suggestions on what kind of paint to use for the brick?

Also we are buying a table for under the tv. When we mounted it, it didn’t look that high but I guess when we put the table underneath it, it may be too high.
