Help New Door Frame - Should we see weather stripping?

If possible, please do not ignore my question and suggest a project or expensive change.

We just replaced our door frame because the door jamb was cracked. We also replaced the old spring bronze weather stripping for modern weather stripping (the door frame included it). Also, we kept the existing door and will repaint it the same color it was before doing this job.

Should you be able to see the weather stripping around the edge when the door is closed?

Well probably swap it out for white weather stripping which should help blend it in, but curious if this is normal or not.

It's common to see the edge of the weather stripping that wraps around the door jamb, it creates the needed seal. I would look to match color if possible, with the jamb/trim that wraps the doorway.

Yes it shows. Go to anyone’s house with newer doors. Swap it out for the white and you won’t see it.

Compression weatherstrip like that will show. Especially bronze color on a lighter color door. I would get beige or white Q-lon instead of the bronze or black that you have now.

If your door frame has a slot cut into it, look for weatherstripping with a "kerf" that will fit into the slot. Big box stores and hardware stores don't have a very good selection.

Look for "long reach" and "medium reach" - usually under the Therma Tru brand.

It is pricey, but makes a huge difference!

(You might also need a new sweep.)

Mine is white and you dont even notice it there. It is the type with the kerf that fits into the slot. It came with the door and frame, when it was replaced about 5 yrs ago.
