NO IMO that only works when you have trim that is not attravtive or you have done this all through the house . I think the dark wall color and the white trim will be beautiful in that space

I prefer the color drench when a room has a 8’ ceiling height as it will make the room feel taller. Whenever you paint the wainscot areas lighter it will visually chop the room down….so, my vote is a total drench or just the base, crown and window trim in the light.

I think you don't like the wainscoting? Maybe paint that out, Leave the crown and window casing

It's too routed and fussy?Is that the issue?

A deep, dark and moody room can be wonderful......but it takes serious thought to DECOR to keep the gloom at bay.

I'd paint the entire room, including the ceiling, in that color. AMAZING!

Beautiful room!! Another vote for all the same. But I would also be interested in what else you plan for the room. Paint color usually is chosen last.

I would start with walls and baseboards and the decide on window trim, door trim, crown and ceiling.

What a beautiful color! I am thinking about changing a room in my home to be something moody - and I've been flipping back and forth on what color to use. This looks like an option to add to the list!

I love the look of the room being drenched in the color - I am trying to be "brave" enough to do it!

My room will have four caramel leather chairs - in a circle (conversation area) with some beautiful artwork on the walls. Right now, I'm hunting for a round coffee table + area rug before selecting a paint color.

I inderstand why paint color should be chosen last but sometimes one can have a vision of what they want the room to be and color is the key. When we built our little house many years ago I was obsessed with twilight. So my living room is a slatey blue with maybe a whisper of lavender and I’ve never tired of it. Friends walk in and often ask if the room has always been this color.

My bedroom was originally a pinky shade. But that has gone by. After visiting Florence I needed to make it a washy ochre. So I thinned white paint and squeezed in paint from tubes until I got what I wanted and swished it on for a loose, chalky, stucco sorta feel.

I have not chosen furniture or a rug yet but am confident that once the walls are painted the decision on these items will be an easy choice. I’ve loved reading all the comments - thanks so much for all your input!!!

It looks like you have cased openings. You will need to decide where the dark stops and the light starts.

Easy when there are doors, not so easy when it's just an opening.

Or not? It is possible to paint yourself into a corner.....: ) Particularly if you fall in love with a rug and........uh oh.

Can you post some photos of rooms you like with that color on the walls? What exactly inspired you to choose it? What is your style? The house looks to be fairly traditional.

Given the lovely paint choice will be the star/set the entire feel of the room, suggest building from there vs a rug (actually suggest choosing it last to suit your furniture, lighting and accessory choices). Go on line and search/compare ”dark brown dining rooms”, narrow down to rooms you love, and suit your taste/home. Chandelier choice is really important and wait to choose until after your dining set is in place (regarding style and size).
