Home Office Help!

I'm working on cozying up my home office and aiming for a coastal elegance vibe. I’m incorporating soft neutrals, creams, and gold accents, but I'm not quite sure how to pull it all together. Any tips or advice in how to layout futniture or what to add to give the room interest would be greatly appreciated! im thinking a serena and lilly ish wallpaper? Help!

What stuck out to me the most is the chandelier. It draws your eye away from everything else. So, my first suggestion will be to replace it or get rid of it altogether. If you do get rid of it I might suggest adding downlights that will give you better illumination. Since there is no plan posted it's a bit hard to say but seems as though the desk should be centered in the room instead of placed over to the side. After that you can address other elements in the room - wallpaper, artwork, etc.

I too would center the desk in front of the windows. (the windows behind you)

Find an area rug you love, drapery panels for accoustical value (shades in the window for light control) Keep it simple and serene.

Usually an office has some storage space, either a bookcase or file cabinet, sometimes both. Do you not have supplies? a printer? a scanner? Or is this just a show piece for writing thank you notes, even then you have to store notepaper and stamps somewhere.

After the chandelier I noticed the exercise equipment and would suggest moving that elsewhere.

Yvonnecmartin, Bless your heart. I truly appreciate your input, but I’m not sure it was necessary or, helpful. Since you’ve graciously opened the door for some constructive criticism, I think you’re kind of aging yourself a bit with the questions about printers, scanners, and supplies. In 2024, working from home usually means doing everything digitally—technology is a beautiful thing, you know? I don't really need to print or scan anything, but don’t you worry your little heart, I do have a large closet in my office where I can store all my “thank you notes” for when they’re needed.

Now, I’m not sure what your intentions were with that comment, nor do I really care, but it might be worth asking yourself why you felt the need to share your opinion. Sounds like there might be a little chip on your shoulder—could it be jealousy I sense?

    Just a thought.

I'd install raffia on the walls

It looks like your chandelier is oblong, rotate it (and possibly swag it) to better center it over your desk.

If a white monitor is in the budget, swap it out for the black one. I like your idea of wallpaper - coastal elegance is all about texture and layers. Add a rug, drapes and more substantial art on the wall behind the desk. You may be able to order new chair wheels that will allow it to glide on a rug, if not, glass chair mats are great.

We don't have dimensions for your space so these suggestions are just a guess: if you need storage for the items in the plastic bins, consider a storage unit at least as long as your desk and align it on the long wall with art above. If you're able to stow those items in your closet, consider shifting the desk toward the closet wall and adding a reading chair in the corner where the tall plant is located now.

Float the desk to the middle of the room and anchor it on a patterned rug to draw attention away from the overwhelming chandelier.

Window treatment here is a light patterned palette. Consider roman shades with a nubby weave to make the space more office like and account for the exercise machine.
