Help Save my Grass Tree

last year
last modified: last year

HI My grass tree after four/five years started dying - leaves turning brown. I dont have the best soils but dug a large well in clay with sand mix. Obviously still too wet. Inside appears to have gone mouldy from too much water and there is visible water in the trunk. Any advise how/whether it can be saved? Ive pulled back all the mulch and given it a haircut in hope it can dry out....

Is it true that they flower when they are about to do this. Had two seasons or flowers prior?

What is a "grass tree"? Do you know the botanical name or can you share a photo of the plant in question?

Offhand, I'd say that digging a hole in clay soil and filling with another soil mix is the source of your problems. It creates a bucket effect and impairs drainage and that can result in root rots.
