Bugs in Garden Soil bag - Sta Green

last year

I bought a bag of Sta Geeen garden soil from Lowe’s. Upon opening, there are a bunch of tiny (maybe 1/16-1/8 inch white “bugs”. At first they looked like little lines but I can see they are clearly moving. There’s hundreds just on the top of the bag, I haven’t dug into it at all.

I’m googling but can’t figure out exactly what these are. Does anyone know? Mostly I just want to know if these are harmful to my garden as I have just invested in a bunch of new plants. I used a higher quality soil for the rest but thought I’d try something more affordable to finish up this project. Now I am regretting it.

Should I throw this away or is it safe to plant with? I’m planting perennials and woody shrubs. I’m planting some around surrounding native wooded areas, so I want to protect those too.

Thanks very much.
