You will need two or three coats of amberseal to match what you have. You may even need to add amberizer to your top coat to get a closer match to a decade old finish.

Our house was built in the ‘30s and we wanted a softer version of the old red oak look. We used one coat of Bona amberseal and a matte finish. If you want to match your old floors, amberseal may get you close, but I will say doing the old and the new together will get you the most seamless look. Here’s our nearly 100 year old floor meeting the new:

We love the results too. For us, it was definitely worth having all the floors done with the same finish. Our old floors were in decent shape, but the refinish with Bona made them look incredible (and a near perfect match to our new addition floors, done together with the old). If you decide to do all your floors this time around, you can choose any degree of amber you like (including none).

2 years later I’m here…. seagreen3 your floors look nearly identical to ours, also in a 1930s house - we have installed new hardwood upstairs & will be using the Bona amber seal , glad to see you mention the matte finish ~ looks incredible.

I ended up using a fabulous floor guy - not sure if he used the bona. He stained the 2 rooms to match the LR oil based. He also replaced some flooring by the radiator. It looks fantastic. He gave me three color choices below.

He ended up combining two colors.
