picking flooring

I’m replacing the flooring at my lake house with an engineered hardwood. The walls have a wood panel in some areas and ceiling.

I’m struggling to Find a shade that compliments that wood. It’s maple
On the wall and ceiling, and k I’m looking at an oak flooring.

The options with the company I’m using are hickory and oak, and I’m looking for honey toned , light flooring. The cottage is dark inside, so I want to lighten it up.

I agree no hickory but honestly go get maple from another company and you lighten up a space with lighting not paint and not floor . I think oak is grainy , hickory even worse and maple little grain why make your life complicated . Get to a good flooring store with lots of options .

No selection without pictures. This will be tricky with wood on walls.

On some sites you can try the floor in your room 'virtually' to check for color.

Flooring is mostly a major choice. You will be using it for a long time I'd get it right without restrictions. You have many factors to take into account. Hardness and scratch resistance of the finish. Thickness of the hardwood veneer. Width and length of the planks. Grade of the wood. Composition of the core. Often a single small sample is quite different in color range tone from many of the planks. Getting a box to lay out in your space to check can help you avoid disappointment.
