Problem Wall in Living Room

I am struggling with what to do on one of the walls in my living room. I had bought three pieces of art from art.com and I just don’t like the way they look. I don’t know if it’s the black frames. I’ve included a picture of them, but I’ve actually found other places in my house to hang them that I like much better. Any advice on what would work here??? I’m struggling. I’ve included pictures of the rest of the house just so you can get an idea of where I’ve been going. Some of you may recognize my den which turned out amazing thanks to you guys !! Thanks so much!!!!! You guys are the best!!!

I tried these three pieces, but they just didn’t look right, but I don’t know why

I still need rugs in the foyer- Any advice you can give me on how to pull this room together, would be greatly appreciated!!!

What do you guys think of wallpaper in that wall with the same wallpaper I did in the den? Too much?

Split up the two chairs. That only wall is not large enough to accommodate them both.

This arrangement will work. Place the chair on the diagonal in the corner and add a floor lamp behind the chair for ambient light in the room.

Add a arc floor lamp to get some light in the space. That one mini light is not enough.

Like this? I had that corner light in my garage. I know it doesn’t work there, but I can pick up a black arc lamp.

Oh, I just saw you said the arc lamp behind the sectional OK thank you

You already have navy & white accent pillows on your sectional, I suggest replacing the solid navy ones for a lighter colour, and would continue with a navy & white accent pillow on one of the chairs. I also suggest placing less articles on the small side table next to the chair.

So I had some blue and cream pillows in my closet that I put on the sectional. I just placed dark blue ones on side chairs. Do you think that works or should I get some with white and blue?

Cleaned of table. I do have a clear glass, taller lamp that I could put on that side table.??

You don’t need two lights in that corner and the end table is a bit too large there. A drum table would be a better choice. Maybe stack the art on the wall.

The dark blue pillow color works on chairs but the pillows are way too large for chairs. I do like the changes being suggested & you’re being great about trying them out & showing results! I do like how your den looks with the changes.

I knew those pillows were too big, but I just wondered if I could get like a lumbar size pillow in the solid blue. Thank you for the idea of the drum table. You’re right now that you say that. I had just grabbed that table from my guest room. I love the idea of a drum table.
Thank you!!! I am so thrilled with how my den turned out! It’s just so much better having many eyes on my decorating issues, rather than just mine!!♥️

So no to the light in the corner? I think I am going to order an arc light for behind the sectional though. Does anyone think this one would work?

Betsy, is your rug square or rectangular? Hard to tell from pics but if it is a rectangle, have you tried it with the long side parallel to your sliding glass doors? Maybe the pics are throwing me off but seems it could be rotated 90 degrees.

It’s rectangular and it’s funny, I actually just flipped it today. I had it running parallel to my sliding glass doors, and I felt like it was cutting my room short.

You know best but with the long side parallel to the slider, is it possible to pull it away from the slider and closer to the wall with your single chair? More centered to the space I guess. With maybe only front legs of small section of sectional on the rug. But maybe a post a pic of the new orientation.

Oh-I had not thought about pulling it away from the slide. That’s a good idea. I’ll try it in the morning. Thanks very much.

Just because you're in Florida doesn't mean every thing has to have a rattan shade. Select a quality arc light where the shade is parallel to the ground. It makes a huge difference in the quality of light. You want it to shine on TOP OF THE COFFEE TABLE.

Can you pull the sectional out just a few inches on both sides so it isn't squished into the corner and drapes? And raise the curtain rod so the drapes aren't on the floor?

You have items..............but they all need to be tweaked into the right positions.

    Here is your corner.

Here's how I would arrange your corner

The corner needs height so I have added a tree, (that should have an accent light in the base to shine up)

I move the chair out of the corner

I placed the floor lamp to the side over the drum table and added a small drum table on which to place a drink or a book.

Baskets or art on the wall to reinforce the height in the corner

Is the rug rectangular and parallel to the long wall?

Here's how the arc lamp should be positioned.

    @betsyk2001

Just saw your pictures with blue accent pillows. The sofa looks much better with the ones you placed with some cream in them. The navy ones on the armchairs seem to be too big for the chairs. Feather filled pillows always look nicer and have a better shape than ones filled with foam.

I think the two lights in that corner don’t work, especially the floor lamp. It’s not big enough. It appears to be hiding in that corner. So one type of light or the other. In your first picture I thought a round piece of art, mirror (which would reflect your lovely art on the opposing wall.

    That’s my 2 cents.

How about a floor lamp something like this on the right side of the sectional... from Crate & Barrel.

BeverleyFLA dezigner you’re right I tend to go overboard with the rattan and wicker because I do like it. I love all of your choices for the lights! Thank you.

@lisalane. You’re so right! I switched it around and pulled it away from the wall and it works perfect!!!! Thank you!!

Kcooz07. I have them hanging on the floor like that because I’ve had these curtains before (they’re from IKEA) and they shrink terribly. I have two dogs and two cats and I end up washing them pretty frequently because I get covered in here lol I tried to a lot for the shrinkage that is going to happen

BeverleyFLAdezigner. Huge difference in that corner I can’t believe I didn’t realize I was over using the rattan/wicker. I love the plant in the corner. I love pulling that chair out. I’m going to look for a drum table. Thank you so much.!!

Lisadv. I agree Blue and cream lumbar pillows are on my shopping list. Thank you.

@djacob. I like the idea of a mirror but I have a big round mirror right next-door around the dining room wall so I don’t think that would work but thank you for your thoughts.

Lisavd. Do you like the floor lamp in that spot you recommended or in the corner behind the sectional?

I guess I’ll buy one and play with it

If the curtains are going to shrink i would wash them a few times now to get them up off the floor. your dogs are adorable BTW.

Somehow the floor lamps shown from the back corner don't look right to me. That's why I tried a different style that doesn't hang all the way out so much and placed it on the other side.

I agree that the arc light in the back corner feels weird. Seems like it would be in the way of seating on the sectional. Betsy, you have so many fun things to work with - I don’t think you need to be buying a lot of new things. Playing with what you have is always rewarding. The plant in the corner by the sliders seems a bit crammed to me - not a great location as it needs more breathing space IMO. Do you have a smaller end table somewhere that could be swapped for the one by your solo chair? Then I would keep one of you table lamps on that side table and put one of your pieces of art above the chair - the blue nude Matisse maybe?

Just want to add that you are great to try everyone’s suggestions. In moving things around, something will resonate with you.

The lamp by your sofa looks quirky and fun. Maybe it could go by your chair? Just a thought.

Place the tree on top of something to boost the height Or place the tree in a taller planter

Consider using a light to illuminate the tree from the bottom.

So-I hit up The Home Store today and I did find a small wooden table that I think fits in with the rest of the room. I also found a taller plant that’s skinnier- thinking it fills out the room better and lastly, I found two blue lumber pillows that fit those chairs better. I also hung the blue nude over the chair that I had originally tried hanging with the other two pictures I had I think it looks so much better! My last struggle is lighting that back corner-. Someone posted an arc floor lamp from Amazon with a white shade and I am very tempted to order that -I have to thank all of you this room just feels so much better!! I wish I had the talent to pull it all together the way you guys do!! Thank you!!!!
PS have also been debating what to put on the new little table. The lamp seems kind of big. Someone had posted a floor lamp behind it thinking about ordering something like that.

    The new plant

Looks great Betsy! Just one suggestion for a small tweak. Try moving the new table and chair a little to the left. (Away from the sliders). That will give the plant some more needed space. Also, do you have a smaller lamp to try on the new end table? Like the really interesting fun looking one next to the couch? Maybe try a swap.

You were absolutely right about moving the new table and chair to the left- that plant needed a little room. I did try the monkey lamp in that corner and I love the monkey lamp and I love my blue nude, but I just don’t like them together. I’m not opposed to getting a different lamp for there. I’m just not sure what to get. As always- thank you for your ideas!!🩷🩷

Moved my task lamp from den-totally loving this! Thanks @BeverleyFlDezigner for the idea! I knew someone had mentioned something like this and I really like your white square shade better. But this will work for now until I find something like that. Thank you!!!

Looks great Betsy! Your home really shows personality and looks so welcoming. Especially love your monkey lamp!

Love what you’ve done here. I think the lamp, table and Shiva all work well together!

    Thanks for all you help!!!♥️
