Brass works with grey walls, etc. And brass works with the grey you chose. It is a combination of factors that can make the combo more aesthetically pleasing. All you are seeing right now are the brass hardwired light fixtures against the grey walls. So you are correct, that you are seeing things incompletely right now.

Once your other elements are in place, and furnishings, etc. - it should all come together.

I put some visuals together. You mention this is your lower level, so I assume basement - but don’t know for sure. And if this is a basement - I don’t know the setup... i.e. if a lounge, home theatre, game room, etc., etc. I just chose lounge for these. And whether it’s your basement or first floor, the concepts should still apply. There might be some glass tables in some of these, and I never recommend glass - if children, teens and/or unsteady people are in the space. And if glass is ever used, only tempered glass. (I just have to say all this because you never know.) The whole point of these visuals is basically just to show brass and greys together; and how using elements such as wood, dark metals, mirrors - warm colors and or black - plants, etcetera. These things can help tie it together.

Thank you Freedomplace1! I love the inspo photos! The space is our 800 sq ft basement. There will be a bathroom and home office, and then the rest open will be an open lounge/tv/play space. It is difficult to take photos because the lighting has not been installed yet, I am just holding the fixture up to the wall. BM Classic Gray is a warmer color and the floor will be natural red oak LVP. I think I am also a bit worried that the brass is just adding more warmth when maybe I should try black or polished nickel instead. I will try to post a photo.

Brass works with everything you have stated, but it all ultimately depends on the look you want and on your style. If you have existing furniture you are using, you can take that into consideration, too. You probably have young children, if there is going to be a play space; so if using a coffee table, definitely consider an ottoman style.

I like the idea of the brass with your finishes. BM Classic Gray is a warmer grey, but there is still grey involved - plus, this is a basement. So even with the red oak LVP, I don’t think you are going to have too much warmth, if you use brass. And you mention that you have a lot of overhead lighting; but I don’t think you are going be full blasting a ton of overhead lighting, in an area designed for lounging, tv watching, etc. Plus, you will probably have some rugs on the floor. But if you are worried about it - of course you could just do the nickel or black, or a combination.

Just posting this as a general example. If there were a larger rug, the floor would be much less of a factor. Also, you notice the combination on the floor lamp.

There can be any number of variations in the color and look of natural red oak and also the various LVP versions.

So I just put together a couple of quick visuals with natural red oak flooring: one with some sconces that show as black and a silver base on table lamp; and the other visual has some brass sconces. Just to give an idea of general look.

I think your flooring might be closer to the second, but I am not sure.

What lights? What are vanities? What does the bath have to do with the living area and what is flooring in the bath?

littlebug- BM classic gray is a warm off-white. Not sure why it is called "classic" gray. it is more gray than beige but does not read cool gray. I was worried about that. I did test edgecomb gray lightened by 25% and it just seemed so dark.

Here are some photos. Color is not quite accurate but as close as I can get. Our home is 1950s ranch. Our kiddos are getting older (9 and 12) and we all needed some extra space.

Jan - Overhead lighting is all LED. Our contractor said there is a way to change the temperature of the lights with the remote, but we haven't gotten that far yet. The hardwired light fixtures I am shopping for are for the bathroom (3-light vanity light, no room for sconces) and a wall sconce for the stairwell. I thought they should be the same metal, even though not not visible together. The whole basement will have the natural oak LVP in 3.25" planks, which is very similar to the original real oak floors we have upstairs. Right now I do not have rugs picked out. I think our current living room sofa will be heading downstairs, which is the Harris sofa in mink I believe the color is-- a warm darker taupe color.
