Looking for suggestions: angled nook next to staircase

I'm looking for a DIY project for the area in this photo:All of my searches come up with a fully enclosed nook as the example but you can see this one is an open nook next to the stair case / under the next part of the stair case.I was potentially thinking of some sort of built in bench in the nook area with storage (drawers maybe?) and some floating bookshelves to replace the bookcase currently there. I don't know how to tell if the built in bench would look awkward or if the space is too small for that?I am really struggling with getting started. I've done some basic DIY stuff but this would be the biggest project (assuming I actually start it!)So I guess this post has 2 questions:1. Suggestions for this space2. Suggestions for someone getting startededit: please ignore the mess, my boyfriend was home alone for 2 weeks. There is a giant coat rack right outside and we're in the middle of redoing the closet, which will help with the shoes

Think of function first. You clearly need shoe storage and a place to toss sweatshirts neatly. No need for built ins here. Instead, get a bench with shoes storage to go along the stairs. Hang pegs or hooks on the wall space under the stairs to hang sweatshirts on. If you feel like getting crafty, get peel and stick wallpaper for the underside of the stairs and the little wall.

Any style shoe bench would work. Here is just an example and matching hooks.

Is there a closet nearby? Shoes and coats should go there. If not, some coat hooks and a bench for shoes to go under.

If you are unsure of how benches - built in or not- would look, try mocking up the space with empty boxes. If you are tired of the bookcase, try removing it for a while. I probably wouldn’t consider floating shelves here as they would just be in the middle of nowhere. Having said that, apparently IKEA has some floating picture shelves which are very low profile but would give an opportunity for a picture display without being protruding.
