Home office help needed

last year

Turned the "dining room" to my office. not sure what to put on the walls or other furniture to bring in and where to put it. have 10ft ceilings.

wanted to add some wall mounted bookshelves but don't think that's possible with the wainscoting. the cabinet on the right doesnt need to be in the room.

appreciate any help.

Your desk looks like a spider. The room is lovely, you can get a better desk. What else do you need in there? File cabinet, printer/scanner, chair?

lol. unfortunately i'm stuck with the desk.

i want somewhere to put books, and space for a printer would be great but not necessary. Would love a little reading nook. no filing cabinet needed.

Its the first room that you see when you walk into the house so I'm trying to keep it as uncluttered as possible.

why would you be stuck with this desk?

We bought a thrifted small dining table for $25 then painted it. Looks great in his office. You could also paint the walls a moody color so desk doesn’t stand out as much.

I think you could put a large piece of art in the middle of the upper back wall, flanked by three wall mounted shelves on either side. Just brainstorming here, but you could also put a double bookcase or a credenza (approximately 30 inches high by 60 wide) on the floor right in front of the desk. That would also help hide the desk. A more colorful patterned rug would help brighten things up.

You could search for wall-mount shelves. There are several and many price points and dimensions.

Waht are the brown things on the wall? I sure hope not wall color plans. I dod not hate the desk but it should be larger with thta giant monitor . Waht do you NEED in the space to do your work. You say this is home office do you mean exactly that or an actual work office in your home.. To me an actual home office requires quite a small space to be very functional so I need info. I think you have space that is too big for what you need and where do you dine now ?

Brown paper on the wall as I was trying to layout some frames and using the brown paper as a template. We have another dining space that we use.

The desk and monitor is all I need to do my work. I would like somewhere where I can store books and other craft stuff I have. The space is big for what I need but it’s only space that is available for my desk.

My questions are. How would you layout bookshelves in the room? What kinda wall decor would look good? (I do want frames on one of the walls).

I like the look of this with your furniture. I doubt it is meant to be wall mounted. Maybe you can design something similar that suits your needs and have it built to your specifications.

Sell the bargain desk and splurge on a skirted desk to hide wires, human legs, etc. Your room looks traditional so nothing too modern. You may want to consider an L-shaped desk so the monitor or laptop can be moved to avoid light distraction during the day. A comfy chair.and lamp. Given the desk is positioned away from a wall your electrical connection for all will need to be considered, so a counseled against the wall behind the desk will help. You can add books, flowers, wall art etc. Two comfy chairs in front of desk or to the side by the window will provide a welcome reading area. Thanks for letting me help spend your money 🥴

That is a huge space for a home office only. Have you considered any other functions for the space?

  • last year

lol this is definitely not a bargain desk. It is a standing desk so very functional. I’m good with it.

It is a huge space. But we do not need it for anything else. And since it’s the first room you see when you walk in (and has no doors) I want it to be quite simple.

I don’t see anything wrong with your desk. You have a lovely space to work. Please come back and post pictures when you are done!
