Basement floorplan help!

I've attached a floor plan of our newly finished basement space. The unmarked "tunnel" in the lower right area is where the stairs lead into the lower level. The upper right area is the most suitable to be the TV viewing space (with the tv on the 11' 7" wall); however, my husband and I are unsure on size/scale of the sectional to purchase. We anticipate

many kids coming to watch movies down here as our child grows. Additionally, since it's a blank space, I am frozen as to what to pick first. Paint colors? Carpet? Couch? Etc. Any insight is appreciated!

I do not like carpet in basements , area rugs yes wall to wall carpet a big no for me and with kids for sure. As for seating I do not like sectionals with everyone lined up . I much prefer a sofa and 2 chairs . The flooring first then the furniture and then wall color . The size of the TV is important . Why the TV in that small area when you have a huge space ? Waht else is planned for that huge basement space ?

What are you thinking for flooring? a simple LVP can be an economical choice for basements - if it were me, I would then find a large rug I loved and pull colors from that

for our basement, we went with the large Ikea Kivic sectional with ottomans - that has been a great value and holds a lot of teens - we also have a round table and chairs (honey oak off Marketplace that I sprayed black) - that is used for cards and to eat while watching tv - then we added a fridge and stainless steel topped kitchen cart along one wall to hold pizza, plates and drinks - don’t forget lamps so the lighting is layered :)

hopefully the talented pros on here can help with layout options

First, LVP was our first choice, but we are doing carpet because it’s an old home and there is too much slope and unevenness to the foundation floor to ensure a quality lay of LVP. We discussed it with contractors and it was just too much $ and time to not be guaranteed. We have a plastic backed subfloor that has helped smooth things out and allows the foundation to breathe.
Second, the TV area was selected because the other area has a lower ceiling, more windows, and is directly below a bedroom. Could we be swayed to move it? Sure. We planned to do a second seating area over on the larger half with a table, a possible second smaller “gaming” area with bean bags for the kids and a pac man machine.

I would start then with selecting your carpet - there are some fabulous loop designs if you don’t have pets (their nails can snag the loops in my experience) - if it were me, I’d prob go a little bold just to avoid the basic carpet look

FWIW carpet is not liked on this forum but sometimes it just makes sense - it will also help with noise

One important consideration is making sure the basement is dry. IF you have a sump pump, a backup is necessary. Dehumidifier to manage humidity too. Lightning is another important factor - have plenty on dimmers. Keep items which absorb moisture (eg cardboard) off the floor. Generally a lighter color works best in a basement. Ours was off-white with accent color used to define spaces within a great room concept.
