What is wrong with Window Sash?

Hello:

I have a double pane window and for some reason the bottom sash's right side is sticking out. I did some research on the internet, and I am wondering if the window balance shoe is broken? When the bottom sash is sticking out, I can see some portion of pile weatherstripping on right side but not on the other side.

Can there be other reasons for this issue?

If the window is sticking out at the red arrow it is most likely a a window catch / sash release . It could be broken or the sash is not pushed back to engage. If it was the shoe or the cam that goes into it could cause it to stick out at the bottom.

The weatherstripping should be the same on both sides. If you don’t see it theres a good chance it isn't there anymore.

Are they Tilt type vinyl windows? Cannot tell much from your pictures, too far away.

thanks @millworkman how can I confirm that they are title type windows? they are vinyl windows.

thank you @toddinmn is window catch/sash release different from sash lock? i will look into that possibility. also, the weatherstripping is present on both sides but it's just that the bottom sash's right-side weatherstripping is sticking out more compared to left side.

The catch is different then the lock.

They are at top left and right of the sash. They are usually spring loaded if you release them by a tab/pull on the catch. They also may engage via the sash lock.

The pictures are bad and I may be diagnosing this all wrong

Do these tilt in for cleaning? if you can add light to more pictures of the windows opened, of any locking mechanisms and of the windows tilted, that could help. High pixel shots will help.
