Thoughts or ideas? Blank space

last year
last modified: last year

We are in a new home. I am working on end/ coffee table. I do have this area behind the main seating area. I am thinking about a bench, as I could use more seating. I thought maybe a floor lamp on the right end and another plant on the left. But always love the ideas that are shared here.

Thanks in advance!

I'd put the two club style chairs in front of the window with a table and lamp between... Get another sofa to make a cozy seating in front of the TV and corner fp

A measured floorplan might help, as to how much room you have.

It doesn’t seem like a bench over there would be very comfortable, or inclusive- feeling behind all the chairs. I can’t tell if there’s room for a chair arrangement as a separate cozy spot.

If thinking just utilitarian extra seating, perhaps 2 matching upholstered cubes ( bench height) would be more flexible, as could move easily next to the grouping.

I think what you have is the best you can do with this room. Adding a bench will not help, it will just be too tight. You need some negative space. When you need more seating to watch a game, etc. Grab the chairs at the dining table and pull them closer, or have folding chairs available in a closet to add when needed.

I'd slide your sofa down toward the window leaving enough space to walk past the end table. Then put your two chairs together on the other right looking into the seating area. It doesn't give you more seating but it would be better for conversation.

The room requires a rug that 'grounds or anchors' the room better.

    • The rug size selected to TOO SMALL FOR THE AREA. Both of your recliners should have a larger footprint on the area rug.
    • The TV Tray tables do not work next to the square cornered seating. Select round tables. They don't have to match in size or style
    • Select nesting tables in front of the sofa /recliner. they are the easiest to push out of the way. OR, select a table with a lift top if you are a family that likes to eat in front of the TV

The back view of the sofa/recliners is always terrible. I would select a narrow console table behind the sofa to hide the view.

You can either place more seating under the console behind the reclining sofa, or add three moveable poufs in front of the windows. You don't want a bench that you cannot move around.

I would do 2 nice swivel chairs to enjoy the view and please lower the TV

I love Beverly’s rug mock-up. It truly makes the room. This seating/ TV area is not a pass- through zone, so you really can use the proper rug size, no need to have a lot of open floor in front of TV. Very much helps the furniture look more cohesive even before trying to right- size the end tables.
Then the window area floor is your clear floor area.
